TheatreLab Dayton

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

INVOLVE.

We are most passionate about empowering local creatives and artists to do what they do best - create. We believe our own Dayton professionals provide an invaluable service to our vibrant arts community and deserve competitive compensation for their work, so they can continue to create meaningful work in our city.

INNOVATE.

We examine the complexity and beauty of the human experience through evocative storytelling on the stage with a thought-provoking and progressive lens. We strive to include new and lesser-known works in our main stage seasons, as well as revisit the classics in interesting ways, to continue to captivate and challenge our audiences.

INSPIRE.

The power of theatre to unite us knows no boundaries.  Our goal is to inspire our audiences, who represent our diverse community, to get involved in the arts. Whether you want to be on the stage or make the magic happen backstage, we are developing the next generation of talent in the city we love, so it continues to be a place of ingenuity, compassion and inspiration for all.
